MatchVid of the Day: Magical vs Shinya (SFA3)

It turns out the players are named Magical and Shinya, and this is an early Street Fighter Alpha 3 match from a 2-on-2 ranking battle. Thanks to Buttermaker for solving the mystery. According to him, “Magical teamed up with Masa (Akuma) and Shinya with Eipachi (Cody).”

players: Magical (V-Sakura) vs Shinya (A-Guy)

observations:
There are two things you can learn from this V-Sakura: how to press a guard meter advantage and how to mount a last-second comeback. There’s one thing you can learn from this A-Guy: don’t use Alpha Counters against Sakura! Both players actually do a good job of demonstrating their matchup advantages, but Guy’s inability to close out the second round seals the match for him. He was probably trying to save his meter for the third round, but that’s a risky gamble when it doesn’t pay off.

Can anyone tell me who the players are in this video? The description doesn’t state much, other than the date and the venue. Either way, that V-Sakura is a bully!

Btw the most awesome thing about this match is Sakura Headcrush barging through oil drums at the very beginning.

  2. Keiko says:

Uhmm, the A-Guy player could be Kiyo, one of the best Guy players in Japan or Dark who played with Guy some times.
But i’m not certainly sure about it.
There are just a very few A/X/V-Guy players around Japan, they’re:
    Kiyo.
    Bridge Dragon.
    Amamiya.
    Daigo.
    Dark.
    Igari.
    Goto.
    Kamiiyu.
    Ple.
    Teacher.
    Shinya.
And i dont know if i’m missing somebody in that list.

I am in no way qualified to comment on A3, BUT it would have been cool if Guy suddenly had gone on the offensive at the end of round two. He was very clearly holding back after Sakura made sweet love to him in that first round, but he was very strong at punishing stuff in the second. I loved how he added that little st.short after his corner air throw.
But yeah, I think he could have caught Sakura off guard by suddenly changing it up in stead of hanging back. Easy for me to say of course.

Yeah, i bet he was kicking himself for not buffering that s.LK into spinkick or super. At the end he was just trying to play the clock, which is an advantage certainly. If that Alpha Counter had connected, he would’ve won the round for sure. But he backed off too soon and ended up in the corner with too much time on the clock.
