MatchVid of the Day: KillermanMK vs WilliamMK (UMK3)

This was uploaded literally five minutes ago and i just happened to click on it, so i figured some of you guys might enjoy it as a change of pace from the usual Street Fighter stuff. It’s the entire grand finals set from the most recent UMK3 tournament hosted by MKK Colombia.

players: KillermanMK (Jade/Kaba/Robot Smoke/Human Smoke) vs WilliamMK (Human Smoke)

observations:
Right, so, i know almost nothing about how this game is played competitively. All i know is that dude on the right is punishing everything using all kinds of sharp objects and it looks painful! He doesn’t seem to know any Fatalities though.

game: Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Arcade)

venue: Amanecedero Fighting: Dawn of the Scrubs – Grand Finals

recorded on October 9th, 2010

man, thats one dominant h.smoke right there. thats the o.sagat of UMK3 though, i dont know who thought scorpion with a pop-up chain and faster walking speed was a good idea, but it wasn’t. :p

also, i may be wrong but i dont think h.smoke has fatalities in the arcade version. he has ermac’s fatality on SNES though, RBRRHK, using one button finishers for anything but fatality 1 causes him to stand still and the game display’s the finisher message anyway. it wasnt until trilogy when he had a full set of two fatalities, animality, brutality, friendship, etc.

    • Maj says:

Oh i was joking about the Fatalities. It has to be bad etiquette to do a Fatality in tournament play, right? I mean i don’t really know so i’m only guessing, but i can’t imagine myself doing one.

  2. n00b_saib0t says:

fatalities are usually fair game, its just quicker to get to the next round if you dont do one. babalities on the other hand are bad tournament etiquette, and mercy is a pretty big slap in the face as well considering the possibility of getting “reverse perfected” by the opponent when you give them back that sliver of health.

When they were playing UMK3 on the ECC stream a few months ago, someone in the chat asked for a fatality – the announcer said it was “xbox live shit” or something to that degree. Either way, when long island joe finally won with Human Smoke, he punched the dude’s head off. I would find it irritating between games (takes too long) and even if you saved it for the very last bout, you would have to really know how your opponent feels about them. Like post-K.O. hits/taunts in SF.

Haha, all of the discussion has been about the damn fatalities. MORTAL KOMBAT!

I feel somewhat honored seeing a matchup made in my home country, and I kind of know the player in the left. I must say UMK3 is not one of my favorite competitive games, because it relies a lot in shenanigans, and it doesn’t give too much space for improvisation, but it’s a great casual-matchup favorite in one of my friends’ house.

3:39 That combo made me feel sorry for 1P…

  5. onreload says:

What’s the biggest game in Colombia, Duxtin? And yeah, sorry about your friend here, he kinda got annihilated.

    • DuXtin says:

Mostly the biggest there (I am from there but I don’t live there anymore) are MVC2, Tekken 5 and KOF2002. There are small communities in CVS2, SF3TS and Hokuto no Ken. I have seen awesome matches in HNK, but those arcades are scarce.

Now I live in Brazil, and everything around here is about SSF4 and KOF2002.

    • Maj says:

I don’t think i’ve ever seen anyone play HNK in person. That game looks so broken, but maybe part of that is because the lead characters in the original anime movie were so broken. Anytime i see that dude with the shoulder pads, i just imagine the other guy exploding as soon as the round starts.

    • DuXtin says:

Anytime i see that dude with the shoulder pads
I think there is just one character without shoulder pads. Anyways, I think I know who you are talking about (Kenshiro), and yes: some of the characters are broken because those comboable fatal K.O. moves.

Kind of like doing a MK fatality in mid round. Isn’t it impressive?
