A new strategy article was just posted on Sonic Hurricane listing different ways of hit-confirming attacks to set up combos and other safer follow-ups. Here’s a brief quote:
Hit-Confirmation Methods on Sonic Hurricane
By design, almost every fighting game combo worth doing involves attacks which are unsafe if blocked. Otherwise everyone would repeat the same motions mindlessly no matter what.
Because fighting games are built to be highly interactive, being able to confirm whether your attacks are connecting is a critical skill. When you’re trying to combo into super moves, proper hit-confirming enables you to revert to a safe block string and avoid disaster.
Haha it’s so weird writing “by Maj” in the title. But i can’t think of a better way to do it, so it’ll have to do.
Anyway i mentioned that i’d be featuring strategy/technical articles on here, so i’m going to start doing that. Any suggestions?
well, I still have a tough time deciding whether or not the move I just landed is successfully a counter move or not. Therefore I confuse myself within this topic and usually end up the victim.
If something isn’t working for you, don’t worry too much about what you’re “supposed” to do. Just go with what works for you. The bottom line is winning, so as long as you’re getting there, everything else is technicalities.
I just think everyone is unique. You can show a tutorial video to 100 people, and 1/4 of them will grasp it right away, half of them will struggle with it but learn it relatively quickly, 1/8 of them will really struggle with it but eventually overcome it, and 1/8 of them will never get it.
Then you can show another tutorial video featuring another character to the same 100 people, and all those groups could be reversed. If you show ten videos, i bet every one of those people would end up in every group at least once.
I guess what i’m trying to say is, nobody gets everything. You just have to figure out what your strengths are and build a gameplan that emphasizes them.
I had to change the title from “Hit-Confirmation Methods Article by Maj” because it annoyed me every time i saw it.
