SFA2 Charlie Custom Combos by Keiko
I provided the SFA2 Charlie vs Rose combo at 2:37 exactly to Keiko’s specifications, but i used emu scripts to record it. That’s the only reason it’s tagged as tool-assisted. Every other clip was manually executed as far as i’m aware.
L.A Players Only combo hahaha, i really want to know the story behind that quote.
Yes, i should add at the transcript that the vs Rose combo is Tool Assisted (i only wrote “provided by Maj”), so it’s ok that is tagged as a tool assited vid.
Have you ever heard of the Street Fighter Alpha 2 Official Strategy Guide by Versus Books? Literally every big-name SFA2 tournament player worked on that book.
Then some drama happened, the owner of the company bailed, nobody got paid for their work, and the world went back to terrible fighting game strategy guides until the BradyGames SFAC Guide seven years later.
Personally i only found out about the SFA2 guide and the story behind it way later, after i got into the SHGL tournament scene. I found it on ebay and bought it as a collector’s relic because i was curious. I was absolutely astounded by the insightfulness and depth of the strategies.
They talked about throw setups, zoning, footsies, all the advanced stuff. I mean the content wasn’t really new to me at that point, but i can only imagine how amazing it would’ve been if i happened to pick up that guide when SFA2 first came out.
Anyway, i think Jeff Schaefer (aka LAAkuma) wrote most of the Charlie section. All the combos in the guide had difficulty levels written next to them: beginner, intermediate, expert, etc.
Schaeffer included Charlie’s s.HK xx lvl1 Somersault Justice combo in the guide, entitled “7-Hit Roundhouse Justice Combo” with this byline:
“(40% Damage • Master • LA Players Only)”
Haha of course Jeff was a big-time trash talker so i guess this was him taking a jab at NorCal, or possibly East Coast?
Then NKI saved the day – i think he was living in St. Louis at the time. And that’s the story behind that Charlie sequence at 1:31 in NKI’s Volume I, Act IX.
Wow i didnt know that, the first time i eard the “L.A Players Only” was of course in the NKI Video, and i always asked myself what he meant with that quote, the first thing that cames to my mind was the East Coast/West Coast Rivaltry or something like that.
So Jeff wrote the Charlie section… interesting, i really want to read that book. i own the Brady Games guide but didnt ear about that Versus Book before, i will look forward for it.
Good story, for some reason I like hearing all the OG stuff, even though I don’t really relate to it. Maybe I just like a good story, and when it’s even the tiniest-bit game related, I’m fascinated. Also, is NKI done with making combovids and such? He had a good variety of games, some fun editing, etc. I guess living in the midwest would kill your fighting game spirit…
I really want to see a new NKI combo vid.
Me too, but i don’t think that’s happening anytime soon. The last time i saw NKI was at Evo and the last time he posted on SRK was August. He hasn’t been around much for a while before then. He seems like he’s into other hobbies now and i’m happy for him. I don’t think he’d be interested in getting pulled back into all this chaos.
