Raging Spaniard started an excellent thread to share and discuss classic 2D fighting game stages, and omni brought it to my attention. It’s definitely worth browsing through if you have a few minutes to spare. The level of detail on many of these is simply astounding.
Favorite Backgrounds in 2-D Fighters? on NeoGAF
Unfortunately, quite a few of the oldschool Capcom backgrounds seem to be missing from the internet. Not to mention, some of the existing rips are static or otherwise flawed.
Someone with sprite ripping experience should definitely consider filling in the blanks and creating a complete gallery archive of these beautiful works, because they’re just plain awesome to look at. Any volunteers?
I think that thread already exists on SRK. Oh and 3s stages are masterpiece! Same goes for KOF stages.
Link?
Just search “background stage” or “fighting game stage” in SRK. Too many threads. This one is interesting http://shoryuken.com/f2/real-places-background-stages-112269/
On related note, look at this BS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTkxU0zOnSc
I used to do quite a bit of sprite ripping so if you need a background and can’t find it I can probably rip it. Because of stuff like parallax scrolling it’s sometimes imposable to put it all in one image.
this is one of my favorite backgrounds

Oh nice, I wanted to post that one in the thread but I couldn’t find the full stage anywhere.
Maj you need to bump your old combo vid thread sometime :D

You picked the Goryus vid as your first link in the first post which is one of my favorites btw :3
This raises the question: are there a centralized repositories for these or are people supposed to just Google it?
It’s ghetto to just dump stuff on message board threads and consider it done.
there are quite a few

this is probably the best one, but it’s not in English
Well, i think omni was planning on collecting everything and archiving it in one place, but he got busy with work or something. It’s complicated too because sprite rippers tend to get annoyed when you mirror their “work.” That means we’d probably have to redo a bunch of existing backgrounds, which would feel like a giant waste of time.
I don’t know, looks like this’ll have to wait until the next time someone gets nostalgic about how cool these backgrounds were.
