@Onreload Genesis UMK3 has the character names inside the lifebar rather than under it (more like the arcade HUD). I’m not too keen on the differences between SNES and Genesis (and this no familiarity on differences between arcade and Genesis) aside from graphics and sound.

Haha okay, that’s what I thought – I knew about that ice clone change, didn’t think about spotting it, and most of the MK3 stages bore me so I rarely notice them – except when I was recently playing UMK3 arcade and Motaro was on the roof, that was so weird to me…and it wasn’t too long, I like this kind of stuff. The dead giveaways for MKT on PS1, at least (not sure about orange/silver disc) are the MK1/2 characters…N64 also has Aggressor, a collapsed Sub-Zero, different K/Chameleons…but yeah if you’re using some characters that are native to all versions, it’s not easy to tell.

I posted a reply over there, and to make sure there was no confusion I made sure to point out that I know the difference between show combos and “real” combos, its just a matter of curiosity.

Also, Maj and Onreload, tell-tale signs of MK3 vs UMK3 (when MK3 characters are used) would be multiple corner roundhouses and Sub-Zero’s ice clone working in mid-combo (@3:08) which was fixed in later games by adding a distance restriction to the move, which allowed them to leave the ice clone unblockable and not have a godlike Sub-Zero. On the home version, stages are a good give away if you can remember which ones are exclusive to which version. For example, the temple and the bank are MK3 only, while only the rooftop, pit 3 and street stages from MK3 are in UMK3 (even the fight with Motaro was changed to the rooftop in UMK3 SNES). In the arcade and MKT, its harder to tell based on MK3 vs UMK3 stages but if its the MK3 HUD and an MK1 or 2 stage thats a give away that its MKT, although its impossible to tell if its orange disc, silver disc, or N64 (with the exception of a couple N64 stages) if you don’t know the super minor details but even some of those involve counting frames (like ninja teleport recovery).

TL;DR – its stupid hard to tell which one is used unless the video tells you or there is a blatant change like ice clone combos.

Hi, feel free to ask this on the cyberfanatix forum where he goes often. Not sure if he speaks English but I can help with the translation if necessary.

Thanx a lot for the feedback.

The Shang Tsung JC nut punch revert morph to kitana throw fan should have been blockable at least twice (not sure about while the fan is actually hitting when he did fan->lift) and that Shang Tsung Reptile forceball chasing should have been blockable too.

i can’t really tell umk3 apart from mk3 except for characters, but there’s definitely no MKT as that wasn’t on the snes, which is where the u/mk3 footage is from
