Whoever comes up with the best title picks the game highlighted in the next few screenshots. As always, the rules are one entry per person and i’ll choose my favorite on Tuesday.
SFA2 Sagat whiffs s.MK to match the other Sagat’s kick Alpha Counter – triggered by blocking an LK Ground Tiger Shot. Auto Mode was selected purely for the alternate color palette.
Here are some alternate variants i captured before settling on the final version above:
I couldn’t decide which s.MK vs kick AC version was better. Generally i like to avoid overlapping sprites so i went with the pixel-separated version.
Muay Thai High Five
Damn Bob, you gonna get back to back wins here.
Wonder Tiger Powers, Activate!
I guess “Going Toe To Toe” is a bit obvious? It’s my entry, regardless.
I suppose “Footsies” would be quite appropriate for something you made Maj.
Dayun beat me to my first idea, so:
“I’m not touching you!”
“Crouching Tiger… Crouching Tiger.”
“Muay Thai Hand Shake”
“Quit copying me!”
“Have you noticed our legs get longer when we stick them out like this?” “You too!”
There’s actually even more wrong with it. It these poses, both Sagats would never be able to balance themselves. They’d fall forward, in stead of being able to retract their front legs again like they do time after time.
Hm, s.MK maybe, but the Alpha Counter one looks alright since his upper body is leaning back. Another crazy thing about s.MK is that Sagat was actually touching the corner when he did that. He literally can’t go any farther left, which is strange considering how much empty space there is behind him.
His upper body may be leaning back, but look at the angle on his leg. Try to kick like that without having to step forward to catch your weight.
The reason mk Sagat can’t go further left is probably that his kicking leg will have to go back left again, to assume Sagat’s neutral position. If this kicking pose was further left, he’d go off screen upon returning to his neutral pose. Still, he’s covering an awful lot of ground with this move.
Well, in Capcom’s defense, Alpha Counters generally aren’t supposed to whiff. In fact i think most of their attacks are drawn under the assumption that they’re going to connect. Although s.MK is still sketchy at best.
Well, an even better defense would be: These frames were drawn under the assumption that no one would freeze frame them for up close study. You can get away with a lot of stuff while it’s “moving”.
I always had to change my drawings if they were off balance like that, so I guess it ruined me in terms of what I let slide… The st.MK would never work in real life, but it doesn’t matter, because the actual drawing still has a lot of awesomeness in it.
Gimme an H!
No Lefties Allowed.
“Red vs. Blue”
How to Pass a Pen: Muay Thai Style
tiger this, tiger that
The War by the Fall
You Got Served: Muay Thai Tiger Battle
Btw, Tong Po approves of this screenshot!
“Tiger Footsies” should be the obvious suggestion.
Yep, that sounds like the one. I liked the “Footsies” suggestion but it made me somewhat hesitant because the actual setup for this has nothing to do with footsies. But somehow “Tiger Footsies” makes it okay in my mind.
Doopliss: Congratulations, you get to pick the featured game for the next couple snapshots. Though it has to be emulated so i can capture lossless screenshots – preferably something on CPS1, CPS2, or SNK’s MVS.
Does JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure work? If so, than I pick that.
These new emulators (FBArr and MAME-rr) support that, right? If so, i’ll give it a shot. Haha i liked making 2-hit combos for that game.
Well, I could record in it using FBA-rr, so that should work.
JJBA is CPS 3.
“I couldn’t decide which s.MK vs kick AC version was better. Generally i like to avoid overlapping sprites so i went with the pixel-separated version.”
If I had read this earlier, my revised title definitely woulda been “It’s not gay as long as you don’t cross swords”.
Well, if JJBA doesn’t work, I choose SFA1.
With the right form, it’s actually quite easy to stay balanced; especially with as much physical strength as Sagat.
